April 12th, 2007

“It shows that we are making real progress to ensure our students are getting the quality education they deserve,” Gov. Mike Easley said in a news release from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. “These professionals have proven they are committed to their profession.”

“North Carolina is committed to retaining high-quality teachers in our schools and this survey gives us the feedback we need to improve our teachers’ working conditions so that they will want to stay in the classroom,” Easley said.

North Carolina leads the nation in the number of teachers who have earned the certification with a total of 6,646. That means one in 13 teachers in the state are certified, Easley told the crowd of educators, politicians and schoolchildren gathered in the school’s media center.
“We’re recruiting the best and making them better,” he said.
