“What these investments will do for transportation around North Carolina is amazing, but what N.C. Moving Ahead will do for our economy is just phenomenal,” Easley said. “All these improvements mean that people, goods and dollars will flow more efficiently in North Carolina… “Everybody uses roads. Everybody needs roads. And everybody needs to be safe,” he said. “It’s not a partisan issue… The reality is that we have not kept pace with the demands placed on the state,” Easley said.

By providing two new interstates, this plan will put in place a solid transportation infrastructure that will improve safety and efficiency and ignite long-term economic growth in Southeastern North Carolina, as well as across the state,” said Easley. “Because this plan offers a regional approach, all of these projects tie into each other and will effectively open up the area for a new level of commerce, attracting more jobs and more dollars.”

“We are taking money that would otherwise sit idle and investing it in jobs and infrastructure,” Easley said in a written statement. “Although we have made great strides in highway expansion over the years, the current condition of roads and bridges, as well as the lack of public transportation options, will not support the quality of life needed to fulfill our vision for One North Carolina.”
“All of these improvements will result in smoother and less congested highways, which will make it easier for North Carolinians to get to their workplace and home again safer and sooner,” Easley said.

“You’re going to see so many cones and orange markers on the sides of highways over the next two years, you’re going to think you’re back in drivers’ training,” Easley said. “It will remind the citizens, if you get slowed down temporarily, it speeds you up in the long run.”

“‘N.C. Moving Ahead!’ will not only bring much needed improvements to our state’s transportation network, it will also revitalize our economy with a $4 billion impact and the creation of almost 30,000 jobs,” Easley said in a news release. “The improved safety and mobility will help North Carolina attract new investments and even more jobs, benefiting our state for years to come.”
