Gov. Mike Easley, in his
second State of the State address,set out an agenda
for legislahptors built around protectingeducation,
boosting economic development and imposing tougher fiscal
discipline over spending.
"We are making the right choices," Easley
said during a jointsession of the state House and Senate.
"We are getting the stateturned around, but we
must finish the job." "We can
start by fixing our budget, growing our economy and
keeping our promise in education. We cannot rest until
theachievement gap is gone, jobs are plentiful and
people aresecure."
