North Carolina Fraternal Order of Police Endorses Easley
September 24, 2004
RALEIGH - The North Carolina Fraternal Order of Police announced its endorsement of Governor Mike Easley in this year's gubernatorial race.
The Fraternal Order of Police is the largest law enforcement organization in the United States , with more than 310,000 members. The NC FOP has 51 local lodges with membership of over 5,200 law enforcement officers across the state.
Under Governor Easley's leadership, North Carolina has been able to avoid the mass lay-offs and pay cuts experienced by law enforcement in many other states. Our fiscal situation should now allow the legislature to consider such steps as moving towards 25 year full retirement packages. Governor Easley is proud to support such action on behalf of law enforcement personnel.
Governor Easley believes North Carolina must continue to work on reducing DNA backlogs in crime analysis, enhancing the coordination of communication between law enforcement agencies, and fighting the growing "meth" epidemic. Together, Governor Easley and North Carolina law enforcement have taken significant new steps in these areas, and are committed to making even more progress.
